It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

This post is a themed writing project challenge taken from Jenny Matlock over at off on my tangent.

Jenny says we can use UP to 100 words to tell our story. It can be fact or fiction. Jenny posts a few words, a prompt that we work from. This weeks prompt is in bold italics.

The bin of tangled up holiday lights always signals the beginning.

Soon there’d be slightly muffled cussing of crooked tree trunks and the fact that we’re Catholic instead of Jehovah Witness.

WHO in their right mind puts a tree…

A FRICKIN DIRTY TREE in the middle of the living room?

It smells,

it sheds,

it drips annnnnnnd...

IT’S A FIRE HAZARD.

Next year, I swear, NO REAL TREE.

NO TINSEL, nooooo tinsel..

This year I WON”T be pulling tinsel out of the cat’s ass.

Have I told you how much I hate the holidays?

I don’t know WHY I put myself through this every year.”

Arrghhhh!

  1. I haven't had a tree since the kittens arrived two years ago. I just had to chuckle at this! Excellent!

  2. Interesting take on the "Bah Humbug" spirit by adding the religious spin.

Like how its written so that it's straight from the character's head with all that angst instead of a commentary.

    Kudos!

  5. I'm laughing so hard I almost had an unfortunate accident with my coffee. This was perfect. What everyone (admit it folks) thinks at least ONCE during the holiday season. And the line about pulling the tinsel out of the cat's ass - well, I work for a vet, so needless to say this cracked me up. Kat

  6. heehee

I have a crooked-trunked tree this year. It looks sorta like that cat with tinsel in its nether regions took a bite out of it!

    ;)

  8. Such realistic laments! But isn't such whining a tradition too for this holiday??? :)

  9. I think you need to get a fake tree, ha,ha. Sounds like some of what we used to have years ago when we did the real tree. I used to especially hate the tinsel and cat part.

  12. Hahaha! When I came home last night from the final day of our winter art exhibit, Rod had put up the tree!

  13. I'm right there with you, girl! I insist on a real tree every year. Every year it is a fight. Sigh. So I showed him, I just stopped decorating. I have a feeling it is not bothering him, but sure is bothering me! Loved your story!

I just posted my story. I think we are kindred spirits with our stories this week. Hope you will stop by and read.

  15. LOL! Brilliant post! What is Christmas without drama? I loved your descriptions! This could quite possibly be the first Centus story ever to describe pulling tinsel out of a cat's ass. Congratulations for that! You rocked this one - around the Christmas tree no less!

  16. Koby. I was there. I was watching this scene. I was feeling the emotions and the tension. Awww...the holiday season is upon us.

    Thanks for a wonderful link.

Some bloggers write "gimme me some love".... as far as I'm concerned, I'd love some love, but I'd even take some hate, some expressions of your disgust, your outrage, mild irritation, sheer joy...whatever, I can take it, honestly I can. Just please (please) leave a comment or two and let me know what you think. Merci.
